VPN is excellent - works with Windows, Mac, iPhone/iPad and Android (use NCP ). I find it a nice touch Netgear provided a nice Windows IPSEC VPN client

The main reason I bought an R7000 was becasue I wanted a built-in VPN server feature, but it's been a letdown to find that it's been completely neglected and using outdated security. I'm not at home right now so I can't check my R7000 but one difference seems to be that on your device the OpenVPN configuration seems to be in /tmp/openvpn, whereas on my R7000 it's at a different location.
